Our Mission

Avani African Décor was founded to support artisans & showcase their traditional craft to the rest of the world, allowing them to become financially independent & empowered.

Avani works directly with co-operatives & self-care groups in Zimbabwe, Kenya and Rwanda - no middle man! To support over 400 women from rural areas working towards a better brighter future.

Through Avani, I am able to directly help these women live a better life just by selling their baskets to the wider market, gives me a sense of happiness & contentment.

Making a difference one basket at a time…

We create a positive environment for our weavers to work in, by giving them a sense of community / togetherness. The artisans come together normally sit under the shades of the trees to weave the baskets.

Your purchase matters ~ to keep our weavers employed as part of co-operatives & self-help groups Avani works with. The more you purchase, the more orders we can place. Regular income allows for better living conditions, food & medical care as well as sending their kids to school.

Being part of a co-operative or a self-help group means every weaver is treated equally with fair pay, given skill training, support, market connection & a sense of community where these women feel safe.

We are dedicated to showcasing the skills & craftsmanship of African weaving by providing consciously crated baskets to our customers.

Sustainable Impact

At Avani, we reduce waste in our production process by using natural materials & ensuring we schedule large batch shipments from Africa to London in order to reduce our carbon footprint.

Fair trade principles are at the heart of Avani’s business. We work directly with co-operatives & self-help groups of women – without a middleman! This ensures are weavers are all paid equally & fairly, to honour the time & skill that goes into making each & every basket by hand.

Being kinder to our planet & becoming more sustainable is a choice, let’s be more mindful in our decisions to do better, buy better & support to keep traditional / unique skills like basket weaving alive.
